Excerpt snippet #2 Sept 28

My senses prickled. It was that feeling of being watched, yet I saw nothing. Then, the trees shimmered, and five figures stepped silently from the woodlands like ghosts. Armed with bows and bronze swords, they were clothed in leather of woodland hues that helped them blend into the forest, only their eyes visible, their faces and heads covered in hoods and scarves like ninjas.

I gaped at them. Had I stepped into a LARP gathering?

Surrounding me, the ninjas pointed their weapons at me. Fierce blue eyes met my wide-eyed gaze. Uh-oh. I don’t think I’m in Kansas anymore. I didn’t move, my shoulders stiff as fear seized me. Something wasn’t right.

“How did you get in here?” one asked, the voice low and guttural. He was speaking some strange language, but my Gateway rune tingled and helped me understand his words.

I answered him truthfully in the same tongue. “I don’t know. Where is here?”

He grunted and scowled at me.

I think I agree: she'd not in Kansas anymore. I wouldn't want to be in her shoes at this point! Happy Medieval Monday!
